> Unit 1: What does it mean to belong to a religious community? – The Island

After this unit, you will know:
- Why RE is important and what it means to belong to a Christian school community.
- What it means to believe in God and how a religious community is formed on a desert Island.
You will need to remember:
- What the Christian act of Eucharist is
- What a Rite of Passage is and be able to identify them within Christianity.
- What the Bible is and understand the 10 commandments and why rules are important.
- The Christian festival Pentecost and why it is important.
- What a pilgrimage is.
You will be able to do the following:
- Reflect on what it means to have faith and believe in God through exploring how a religious community is formed.
- Recall important information on Christian acts of worship, Rites of Passage, festivals, pilgrimage and the Bible.





> Unit 2: What do Christians believe?

- Different beliefs about God’s existence including the qualities of God (Holy Trinity).
- Who Jesus was and what his mission was.
- The importance of Christmas including what Advent, Incarnation and Epiphany are.
You will need to remember:
- Arguments for and against the existence of God.
- The qualities of God described in the Bible.
- What the Holy trinity is.
- Who Jesus was and what was his mission.
- Why Christmas is important?
You will be able to do the following:
- Create a God in the box assessment showing God’s qualities and what he means to you.
- Write PEE (Point, Evidence, Explain) paragraphs looking at arguments for and against the existence of God.





> Unit 3: Why should we treat people with dignity and respect? Is life always fair? (Poverty)

- About the life and work of Oscar Romero and how he is a symbol of liberation.
- About the work that our different house charities do for people in need.
You will need to remember:
- The Christian response to poverty including some parables and the teachings of Jesus about how to treat others.
- Our school vision, what our house charities are and how they help others in need.
- The life and work of Oscar Romero and how his is used as a symbol of liberation today.
You will be able to do the following:
Create a cross of liberation representing your views and hopes to the future. Reference to Oscar Romero and St Hilda’s charities and vision must be demonstrated in your assessment.





> Unit 4: Why do people believe Jesus rose from the dead? Afterlife.

- What happened to the body of Jesus (resurrection)
- The importance of Easter, ascension and Salvation.
You will be able to do the following:
- Write 3 PEE paragraphs on the importance of salvation including information about resurrection.
- Explain different views on life after death.





> Unit 5: What does it mean to be a person of faith Hinduism and Sikhism?

All the Sikh Gurus taught that: ‘We are all sons and daughters of Waheguru, the Almighty Lord.’
After this unit, you will know:
- What the main world religions of the world are and key facts about them, including when they started and who their founder is.
- What Hindus and Sikhs believe about God.
- Acts of worship and one festival from Hinduism and Sikhism.
You will need to remember:
- The symbols, sacred text, place of worship, founder and festivals of the World religions studied at St Hildas (Christianity, Hinduism, Sikhism, Judaism and Islam).
- Hindu belief about God and Puja.
- What the 5 Ks of Sikhism are and why they are important.
- What the festivals Diwali and Vaisakhi are.
You will be able to do the following:
- Recall and explain the different beliefs that Hinduism and Sikhism have about God.
- Name and explain the 5 Ks of Sikhism
- Explain what Puja is
- Name and explain the festivals Diwali and Vaisakhi.





> Unit 6: What is Spirituality?

- What Mandalas, Martis and Christian Icons are and how they connect to Spirituality.
- What spirituality means for St Hilda’s and how it links to our school vision.

- What spirituality is and identify and explain examples of Madalas, Martis and Christian Icons.
- What spirituality means for St Hilda’s
You will be able to do the following:
- Apply your knowledge to completing either a Spirited Art competition or The Bible Project entry.





Assessments

For your mid-year assessment, you will need to know:
Unit 1 What does it mean to belong to a religious community? – The Island
- What the Christian act of Eucharist (Holy Communion) is and what is involved
- Understand what a Rite of Passage is and be able to identify these within Christianity
- What the Bible is
- To understand the 10 commandments, who received them and why rules are important
- The Christian festival Pentecost and why it is important
- What a pilgrimage is
Unit 2 What do Christians believe?
- Arguments for and against the existence of God. (You must be able to write at least 2 PEE paragraphs on these different arguments)
- The qualities of God described in the Bible
- What the Holy trinity is
- Who Jesus was and what was his mission
- The Christian festival Christmas why it is important

For your end of year assessment, you will need to know:
